The First National Bank of Carthage and The Merchants & Farmers National Bank of Carthage were chartered within a month of each other.

The first President was

Temple D. Smith

The First Cashier was

John W. Cooke

But

A. L. Ross

is the Assistant Cashier who signs the 1902 notes with Smith as President.
He also signs the 1929 notes with Cooke as President.
