The First National Bank of Carthage

"In 1903, this building for the Bank of Carthage later the First National Bank of Carthage was erected. It was an imposing Victorian structure on the southwest corner of the square [facing north at 100 W. Sabine]. Upstairs offices were rented to professional men; Dr. W. P. Lawrence located his dental office in the front suite. After the First National Bank built a larger, mordern facility a block to the south, this historic building was restored to its general appearance, including the weather vane, and was utilized as a museum and tearoom (Courtesy of PCHS)" (Bill O'Neal. 2009. Carthage, Mount Pleasant, NC: Arcadia Publishing. P. 63)

Given that the First National Bank of Carthage was chartered in April, 1902, and that the window on this bank says "Bank of Carthage" the predecessor of the First National Bank the photo was probably taken in early 1902 or before.
