The First National Bank of Gorman

Gorman is in Eastland County, not close to any well-known landmark.

Ninety-four miles west from Ft. Worth on IH 20 to Eastland, then 20 miles SSE on TX 6.

This is the same bank about

1920

and

1950.

The First National Bank of Gorman was chartered 7410 in September, 1904 and printed notes through to the end of the National Bank period.. It printed 1902 Red Seals, 1902 Date and Plain Backs, plus 1929 Types 1 and 2. There was a total issue of $570,790 with $30,000 out at close.
After all of that printing, there are only fifteen notes in the census: one 1902 Date Back, two 1902 Plain Backs, eleven 1929 Type 1's, and one 1929 Type 2. One of the Plain Backs is in the Philpott-Moody Collection.

This Type 1 sold at a Heritage Auction in 2011 for $276.
