Archer City
The First National Bank of Archer
City
Archer City is in
Archer County, about 15 miles south of Wichita Falls on TX 25.
That is the approximate SE corner of the Panhandle.
Archer City is also the home of Larry McMurtry and
The Last Picture Show.
Although this building does not
have an original "BANK" inscribed on it,
it does exhibit the expected age and the ornate gravitas of a
bank, and it continues to house a bank.
Plus, there are no other buildings competing with it.
The First National Bank of Archer
City, charter 5711, opened February 12, 1901, and stopped printing
money December 31, 1904.
Its output consists of $12,000 in 1882 Brown Backs.
Six hundred dollars were unredeemed, and there are no notes from
this bank in the census.
