Downtown Tyler
1909
This shows "the July 6, 1909,
parade as it travels south on North College Avenue and turns
east onto West Erwin Street ... Business signs visible include
Goldstein and Brown; John's; Wadel, Caldwell, Hughes, and Patterson;
Mayer and Schmidt; I. Liebreich; and Jester National Bank."
(Reed, Robert E., Jr. 2009. Tyler,
p. 78. Charleston, SC: Arcadia Publishing.)
This view is to the north along
North College Avenue. The east-west street at the end of the
block is West Ferguson. The east-west street in the foreground
is West Erwin.
Apparently, the earlier Tyler National Bank
"located in the 100 block of West Ferguson Street"
was replaced by the Jester
National Bank at the same location, which
is at the upper right in this photograph, partially hidden behind
the tent.
This is a closer look.
The Peoples National
Bank later occupied the space filled by
Goldstein and Brown, which is at the left foreground in this
picture, on the northwest corner of the intersection of North
College Avenue with West Erwin Street.
