"He served with Company D. 7th Texas Infantry under Captain Van Zandt in the Civil War. The regiment was taken prisoner at Fort Donaldson, Tennessee and for several months he was incarcerated at Camp Douglas near Chicago. Following the war he served as president of Marshall National Bank for 26 years."
