The area of interest is bounded
by Texas State Highway 31 west-to-east from Corsicana to Marshall,
then south on Texas State Highway 59 from Marshall to its intersection
with Texas State Highway 94 at Lufkin, then southwest on 94 to
Trinity, then north on Texas State Highway 19 to Crockett, and
finally on Texas State Highway 19/287 to Corsicana. National
banks that were in that space are our focus.
The national banks represented
are, clockwise from the upper left, Corsicana, Kerens, Athens,
Tyler, Kilgore, Longview, Marshall, Carthage, Troupe, Henderson,
Jacksonville, Rusk, Nacogdoches, Lufkin, Groveton, Trinity, Lovelady,
Crockett & Palestine.
Locations of interest, which had
national banks, but which are not yet present here, are Malakoff, Frankston, & Timpson.
During the national bank period,
these twenty-two towns hosted 50 national banks, which printed
a total of
$41,309,704.
