Fiery Skipper
Hylephila phyleus
"The smaller male is bright
orange above, with a black stigma and dark, sawtooth margins
edging both wings. He is paler orange below, the hindwing bearing
scattered black spots. The female
is larger and dark brown above, with an irregular band of orange
spots across her wings. Orange-yellow or brownish yellow below,
she has scattered dark spots and an irregular pale band The antennae
of both sexes are much shorter than those of related skippers,
barely exceeding the width of the head. "
This view shows the paler orange
and the scattered black spots on the hindwings.
