Banks in Menard
1903 - Present
The first bank was organized in 1903 as
a private institution
Bank of Menard
"He promoted and organized the Bank
of Menard in 1903, with a capital stock of $50,000 and responsibilities
of over $1,000.000, with William Bevans as president." [http://genealogytrails.com/tex/hillcountry/menard/bios1.html]
In June, 1911, the
First National
Bank of Menard
was created. The First National Bank of
Menard, chartered 10044 was the only Menard bank to issue currency.
Bevans' Bank of Menard, apparently, did not dissolve, because
in 1914,
Bank of Menard
absorbed the First National Bank of Menard.
In August, 1919, the original bank morphed into
The Bevans National
Bank of Menard

[Standard Daily Trade Service, August 9, 1919,

chartered 11414, which did not issue currency.
In December, 1929, the evolution continued, and The Bevans National
Bank of Menard became
Bevans State Bank
of Menard
In January, 2004, the bank changed again.
The Bevans State Bank of Menard became
First State Bank
