This is the Groveton town square in 1884. In place of a central point, such as a courthouse, with buildings around four sides, Groveton has a central space defined by the buildings that surround & define it.
The view is to the West. The square/street was originally Sloan Street, and is now Main Street.
That configuration is still present.
