This is clearly not J. W.'s brother, D. R., who died in 1914. It is a second D. R. Murchison, who originates in El Paso, then moves to Dallas, and finally to Athens.

Early in the 20th century Daniel Royall Murchison ­ for health reasons ­ moved his family to El Paso.

There were six children.

D. R., Jr. is the doctor. Frank M. becomes a banker in El Paso and then in Evanston, IL. T. McIntosh ("Mack") becomes a doctor and moves to Mexico.
