Sickle-Winged Skipper
Eantis tamenund
The Tvetens (216) note some confusion
in the classificatory nomenclature. They use Achlyodes mithridates,
and Glassberg (152) uses an alternative designation Achlyodes
thraso. I have been told that the correct classification
is Eantis tamenund."The broad, rounded wings are
dark brown, glossed with an iridescent sheen of lavender and
copper and crossed by bands of gray spots. The female is lighter
and more mottled than the male. Both sexes, however, have sickle-shaped
forewings, a distinctive feature formed by an indentation in
the outer margin just below the hooked tip."
Glassberg (153) says that it is
a "R[are] immigrant in Houston area. RS[tray] north to Dallas."
It is not on the USGS Checklist
for Houston County.
