Southern Skipperling

Capacodes minimus

"A tiny, bright orange skipper with very angular wings. Bright orange with a narrow white ray on the HW below ... U-C." (Jeffrey Glassberg's Butterflies through Binoculars: The East. P. 168.)

The USGS webpage has a description that is closer to this specimen: "The smallest North American skipper. Wings are pale orange both above and below. Upperside of male forewing has a narrow, short black stigma; female forewing may have narrow black edging. Underside of the hindwing has a white stripe running from the base to the outer margin."

This butterfly is about 1/2 inch long from nose to tail.
