Great Purple Hairstreak
Atlides halesus
"The blue wings of Atlides
halesus above are bordered with black; those of the female
are duller and with the blue areas more restricted than in the
male. Two tails, the lower one longer than the upper one, adorn
each hindwing. The wings beneath are dark charcoal gray or black,
with a slighter purplish cast. Iridescent gold and blue spots
ornament the rear edge of the hindwing, the wing bases and trhe
lower surface of the abdomen are bright orange."
