Checkered White
Pontia protodice
"The checkered white is not
one of the more common butterflies in Houston. Despite its wide
distribution, it is absent from much of Louisiana and eastern
Texas, ranging into our area occasionally from the west ... Females
are heavily checkered above with black or charcoal-brown, the
underside of the hindwings lightly shaded with yellow-green or
tan along the veins. Males are less profusely marked, with lightly
checkered forewings and plain white hindwings."
This is the dorsal
side.
This is one of BugGuide's
Checkered Whites.
