Yellow-Crowned Night-Heron

Nyctanassa violacea

"The yellow-crowned night-heron is a handsome bird, with its pewter gray body and black head contrasting sharply with white cap and cheek patch. The yellow tinge for which it is named, is not easily seen ... In Texas it winters very locally along the coast and can be difficult to find, but during the breeding season it spreads out across the eastern portions of the state."
