Vesper Sparrow

Pooecetes gramineus

"It nests in Canada and migrates across most of Texas, where it remains throughout the winter in all but the northern Panhandle ... A fairly large sparrow at more than six inches in length, it is streaked below and has a narrow whitish eye-ring and a dark cheek patch bordered by white."

The distinct white eyering is an identifying feature.
