Summer Tanager

"The most widespread and abundant
tanager in Texas ... Sometimes called the 'summer redbird,' the
all-red male might at first glance be taken for a cardinal, but
it lacks the prominent crest and black face of that familiar
year-round resident. The fairly heavy bill is yellowish or horn-colored.
The female remains a
drabber greenish above and mustard yellow or gold below, often
with an orange cast."
The bird above is a Summer Tanager
it is full red plumage. But earlier in the year, it will have
a more varied
coloration.
