Northern Bobwhite Quail

Colinus vurginianus

"The chunky, short-tailed northern bobwhite is rich reddish brown, mottled and flecked with black, buff and white."

Fifty years ago, they were as common as doves in East Texas. Fire ants were a major cause of the decrease in their numbers. In this area, they seem to be returning to their former strength.
