House Wren
Troglodytes aedon
I had mis-identified this bird
as a Carolina Wren. More careful inspection shows that "bold
white stripe above eye" (Alsop, p. 380) of the Carolina
Wren is missing in this bird. Tveten (275) says of the House
Wren, "It is a spring and fall migrant thoughout most of
Texas and remains though the winter in all but the Panhandle
and the extreme northern edge of the state ... This five-inch
bird is brown, with only a faint eyebrow stripe, and the lack
of prominent facial stripes distinguishes it from most other
wren species."
