Hooded Warbler
Wilsonia citrina
I am convinced that this is a Hooded
Warbler. The marking on the face is unmistakeable. The bird was
in the bottom of a creek bed, and I was 15 feet above and approximately
50 feet away. There was a fair amount of fern-like grass between
me & it. This was the clearest picture.
"There can be no mistaking
the male hooded warbler. Olive-green above and bright yellow below,
he sports an extensive black hood that frames his golden face
and fore-head. So intense is the contrast that the face seems
to glow with an inner light, even in the dense shade of the forest
floor ... During migration, from late August through September
and again from late March until early May, they occur commonly
through eastern Texas and along the coast."
