Dark-Eyed Junco
Junco hyemalis
There are several closely-allied
varieties of this species. "The collective juncos are slightly
smaller than house sparrows and display conspicuous white outer
tail feathers in flight. Most have a gray head and breast contrasting
sharply with a white belly ... The male 'slate-colored junco'
has a dark gray hood and upperparts and a white belly, while
the female is a duller brownish gray above. It winters virtually
throughout Texas."
The above is a male. This is a
female.
