Crested Caracara
Caracara cheriway or Polyborus plancus
A family member described seeing,
more than once, an unknown bird, both in the sky and sitting
on the ground, or in a
tree as it turns out. When shown a handbook with possible
identifications, the Crested Caracara was quickly and positively
chosen. So the bird may be in the area.
It was only in January 2015, that
I saw for myself a bird that was clearly a Crested Caracara.
Here is another
individual that appears to show all the correct coloring.
Photo taken with a Nikon D90, using
a Nikon 400mm, f/5.6 manual focus lens.
