Black-Bellied Whistling Duck

Dendrocygna autumnalis

This is a different pair of Black-Bellied Whistling Ducks that have nested on the same pond. There are at least 12 ducklings here.

Mark W. Lockwood & Brush Freeman in The TOS Handbook of Texas Birds (P. 1) state, "Black-bellied Whistling Ducks continue to expand their range northward and eastward and are now found north to Brazos and McLennan Counties and locally to Tarrant and Dallas Counties. Isolated breeding populations are also established on the southern Rolling Plains around Brownwood, Brown County." And now Houston County.
