The First National Bank of Falfurrias
Falfurrias is the
county seat of Brooks County, 160+ miles south from San Antonio
on US 37 and 281.
Falfurrias is 90 miles east of Laredo.
And in 1940.
The First National Bank of
Falfurrias was chartered in 1920 and lasted to 1934, when it
was rechartered as
The First National Bank in Falfurrias.
This repeated the practice of Groveton, Breckenridge, and Burkburnett
in which two successive banks were distinguished by prepositions:
of versus in.
The First National Bank of
Falfurrias printed 1902 Plain Backs and 1929 Type 1's. Fourteen
are in the census: five 1902 Plain Backs and nine 1929 Type 1's.
Two of the Plain Backs are in the Philpott-Moody Collection.
The First National Bank in Falfurrias printed the 1929
Type 2's, but no survivors are recorded.
This Plain Back sold at an April,
2013 Heritage Auction for $4,700.
