Edinburg

The First National Bank of Edinburg

Edinburg is the county seat of Hidalgo County, about 17 miles north of the Rio Grande on US 281.

This is the building today.

The First National Bank of Edinburg was chartered 13315, April, 1929 and ceased business February 2, 1934.

The bank issued 1929 Types 1 & 2.

The census records forty notes, most in five Uncirculated sheets (6 notes each). There is a sheet of $5 Type 1's and another of $10 notes. There are three sheets of Type 2's in the $5, $10, and $20 denominations. That leaves these: one Very Fine 1929 Type 1 $5 note, three Type 1 $10 notes, and five $20 Type 1's. Lastly, there is one $10 Type 2. The Philpott-Moody Collection has no Edinburg note.

This $20 Type 1 sold in a Lyn Knight Currency Auction June, 2014, for $747.
