Archibald Gray Adams
(August 31, 1876 - June 16, 1948)
In 1931, Adams is the victim of
extortion.
Notice that Adams' bank is now The
First State Bank of Jacksonville.
(The Corsicana Daily Sun, February 11, 1931,
P. 1)
The puzzling thing about the demand
is this: If you are blackmailing a person, why would you also
threaten to bomb the home. You would think that either blackmail
or extortion would by itself be sufficient to get the mony. Why
do both?
It is not known how the matter ended.
In June, 1931, the son of I. N.
Cerf, President of the State National Bank of Corsicana, was
kidnapped, and Cerf paid $15,000 for his release.
1931 was a bad year for bank presidents.
