A type of plane that typically flew
the route between Vancouver & Bella Coola.
There is an airport in Bella Coola,
but sometimes the low ceiling will not permit the planes to fly
up the valley to it. In that case they had to land on the inlet
near the wharf.
The plane would normally stop at
Bella Bella, which did not have a dryland airport. There the plane
would land in the sea.
This plane, which I was about to
board, was scheduled to stop in Bella Bella and then go on to
Bella Coola. Winter came late in 1976, and the end of February
and the first part of March were marked by the first serious snowfall
and cold weather, which stalled air transportation. This was the
first plane in several days to leave Vancouver for the north.
